We were reading an online article by Jeremy Staton not too long ago that focused on the many questions that often pop up when people find out that a family is adopting children. There are all the initial (and somewhat harmless) questions that come up first such as:
What country are you adopting from?
How many kids do you already have?
How much does it cost?
How long will it take?
What agency are you using?
There are other "surfacy" questions that come up as well, but the deeper question that all of these questions lead up to and the one that requires the most courage to ask is:
Why?
Why are you adopting?
Well, in our case, the reason we are pursuing adopting these two little girls from Moldova is because it is a clear calling that God has planted deep within our hearts. We are therefore compelled to pursue adopting! What began as a journey of adoption has become a much deeper pursuit of what we believe will be a lifelong commitment to participating in the continual improvement of life in Moldova.
The girls we are adopting now, we believe, will be our Beauty and our Joy. But we believe that the journey will not stop with these two girls. Time will tell, but for now we can clearly see that God is painting a picture much bigger than we can imagine and he has a place for us in His story!
In Staton's article, he goes on to describe another, perhaps more important question. If we do not follow through with this pursuit of these girls, then who will?
We can. And we will!
